After waiting years for Blackbear to do a London show, I finally got to see him in December 2017. I was fortunate enough to meet Blackbear a few months before his gig during his visit to London, where he kindly added me to the guestlist of the sold out show. Despite suffering from a chronic illness, Bear was able to put in so much energy and keep the crowd very well entertained.
He started off with a few songs on his keyboard on the left hand side of the stage, then moved on to more lively hits with a some acoustic songs in between. With so many songs it would have been hard to please everyone but I think that the setlist was great, and his encore performance of ‘All Star’ by Smash Mouth where confetti rained down on both Bear and the crowd was a fantastic ending to an unbelievable show.
Bear really showed off his vocal abilities throughout the show, where many songs featured references to high end fashion brands. The only downside to the show was that there wasn’t any merch available to purchase, so no beanies to add to my collection. I would highly recommend going to a Blackbear show whenever you have the opportunity, especially as he has mentioned he would like to retire soon.
