// AJ Mitchell // First London Show // Camden Assembly // 25-11-19 //

Taking to the stage for his first ever London performance, AJ Mitchell made his mark on England’s capital city with an intimate gig right in the heart of Camden. Opening the show with 2019 release All My Friends, Mitchell had the crowd singing along from start to finish.

Formerly known as The Barfly, the intimate setting at the Camden Assembly allowed Mitchell’s stage presence to shine. There was no need for a huge production, and with just AJ and his band on stage at the sold out show, he was able to hold the audience’s gaze throughout with frequent interactions with the excitable crowd. Adding to the atmosphere was the almost surreal feeling knowing that AJ would not be back performing in such an intimate venue again, due to his fast growing international following after the success of recent release, Slow Dance.

Although his set was short, Mitchell managed to create a perfect blend of both upbeat pop hits including his most recent single, Unstoppable, as well as slower songs including I Don’t Want You Back and Down In Flames. He even threw some covers into the mix with a beautiful version of Lewis Capaldi’s Someone You Loved and Issues by Julia Michaels, which was sung with such passion it was hard to remember it wasn’t even his song. The young musician’s vocals were incredible throughout; the vocal runs, powerful notes and beautiful falsettos had the crowd cheering in disbelief, with many of those around me simply saying ‘wow’ in pure amazement at how effortlessly he hit each note.

With his debut album set to release in 2020, AJ hinted at being back soon, so be sure to check out his music and follow his socials for updates!
